Joseph Bates
Joseph started singing in earnest in college, when he joined the Pitchforks of Duke University. He studied music composition and physics at Duke, writing a dual-department thesis on the science of the human voice that earned him graduation at the highest distinction. The final movement of the composition won him an award from Contemporary A Cappella Publishing (CAP) and an inclusion on Sing 3.
After joining diovoce, Joseph helped bring the Pitchforks back into the national spotlight with his direction and production on the album ‘Honestly’, which was honored with multiple CARAs and an appearance on BOCA 2004. He served as music director of the Pitchforks for 2 years and produced the group for three years, still working with many Duke groups to this day. His arrangements have earned numerous awards, and are performed by thousands of singers around the world.
Together with Dave Sperandio, Joseph produced the 2008 “Pop/Rock Album of the Year” for their North Carolina-based group ‘transit’. He is available for arrangements, recording, producing, and editing.
